Volunteers

We have an amazing team of committed volunteers who play a central role in the life of St John’s Centre. We couldn’t do half of what we do without them!

English classes: ‘ESOL’ – Our volunteers plan, prepare and deliver three weekly classes to learners from all over the world. Some volunteers are experienced teachers, others have never taught before but find enjoyment and purpose in supporting people who want to improve their English.

Stay & Play – Our volunteers create a weekly safe and fun space in our large hall for children under 5 and their parents/carers. They set up the room with play and craft items, welcome arrivals with drinks, prepare & serve snacks for the children then lead a singing time.

The Bread and Butter Thing – One of our most popular volunteer led projects with a team of committed and friendly volunteers. They unload boxes of food which arrive in a van from supermarket donations then pack and hand out 240 bags to people from the community.

Gardening – Thursday volunteers care for and maintain the gardens around the Centre. They grow fruit, vegetables & many flowers.

The Hub & reception– Our hub provides food bank referrals and emergency food, financial help with bills, signposting to specialists. Volunteers support staff with all of these tasks, welcoming, directing as well as Centre admin.

Digital Champions – Supporting people one on one with their own digital progression.

Events – Volunteers help organise & take part in our fundraising events.
