ESOL Courses

We generally have several ESOL courses and conversation groups running at St John’s at various levels, in association with the Workers’ Educational Association (WEA) and other providers.

In September 2025, tour ESOL classes will include:

  • Entry Level 2 Accredited
  • Entry Level 3 unaccredited
  • Pre-entry unaccredited
  • Functional Skills (for fluent English speakers who need help with reading and writing)

We also have our open access, volunteer-led groups, which are free and open to anyone at any level.

  • ESOL Group – Monday 1-2.30pm during school term time
  • Discover Manchester – Friday 10-11.30am during school term time

We are grateful to the the National Lottery’s Awards for All fund for supporting these groups.

Assessments and enrolments for all these courses will be at our Open Day on September 9th 2025 (10am-3pm). Please call 0161 872 7795 or email [email protected] if you would like a reminder by text or email.

If you are interested in Entry Level 3 or Functional Skills, you can also contact Hannah Idriss on 007790350453 or at [email protected].

If you are looking for an online course, you can go to www.wea.org.uk to find out what is available.

If you would like to practise your English at home, there are useful resources for all levels of study on the ManchesterESOL website.

You can also contact the Trafford ESOL Service for an assessment, and information about other ESOL classes in Trafford borough. They hold a drop-in session at St John’s Centre from 1-3pm on the fourth Tuesday of every month if you would like to talk to someone in person – no appointment needed.

We are always looking for volunteers to help in our ESOL groups – if you can speak and read English well and would like to help, please contact Claire Trivino at [email protected] or call 0161 872 7795.
