We generally have several ESOL courses and conversation groups running at St John’s at various levels, in association with the Workers’ Educational Association (WEA) and other providers.
This Summer we are offering:
Pre-Entry ESOL (Monday, Wednesday and Thursday 9.30am-12.30pm, 3rd August – 3rd September)
The following courses will start in September 2026. They are accredited courses with a qualification.
- Entry 3 Reading
- Entry 2 Writing
- Entry 1 Speaking and Listening
All these courses are open to Greater Manchester Residents aged 19 or over, who are not working.
Registration for these courses will be on Wednesday, 22nd July between 10am-2pm. You will need to complete a short assessment as part of the registration process. You will also need proof of your ID; your address; and your benefits (if you claim them). Please call Emma on 0161 872 7795 or email [email protected] to book your place.
We also have our open access, volunteer-led groups, which are free and open to anyone. These will be open to new learners in September 2026 – you will be able to enrol at our Open Day on Tuesday, September 8th (10-2pm).
- ESOL Group (all levels) – Monday 1-2.30pm during school term time
- Discover Manchester (all levels) – Friday 10-11.30am during school term time
- Evening ESOL (Entry 3 and above) – Monday 5-6.30pm during school tern time

If you would like to practise your English at home, there are useful resources for all levels of study on the ManchesterESOL website.
You can also contact the Trafford ESOL Service for an assessment, and information about other ESOL classes in Trafford borough. They hold a drop-in session at St John’s Centre from 1-3pm on the fourth Tuesday of every month if you would like to talk to someone in person – no appointment needed.
