Sewing Courses

Our September pathway has been developed by the WEA to support learners who want to make a business out of sewing and textiles, starting with Confidence for Creatives in September and continuing with Sewing into Business in November. There will also be an option to continue to a Level 2 Award in Creative Craft (Textiles) in March 2027.

Two courses will be available: 

  • Wednesdays 9.30-3pm 
  • and Fridays 9.30-3pm

Please note these courses are only open to people who are not working. It is free to learners on means tested benefits or low incomes.

Registration will be on Wednesday, 22nd July between 10am-2pm. You will need to complete a short assessment as part of the registration process. You will also need to bring proof of your ID; your address; and your benefits (if you claim them). Confidence for Creatives

Confidence for Creatives is designed to empower individuals to understand themselves, build confidence, and develop practical skills for both personal and professional growth. The course builds your employability through hands?on practice in communication, CV development, public speaking, problem?solving, SWOT analysis, and action planning.

Sewing into Business

This beginner-friendly course offers a welcoming introduction to popular textile crafts.

Designed for complete beginners or those looking to refresh basic skills, the course guides learners through essential techniques in each discipline while building confidence and creativity at a comfortable pace. Across the sessions, students will learn how to handle yarns, fabrics, tools, and equipment safely and effectively. In sewing, learners will be introduced to hand-stitching, basic machine use, fabric cutting, and finishing methods suitable for straightforward craft pieces. Course materials such as but not limited to cloth, thread and trims are provided. Students are welcome to provide their own material and embellishments should they wish.
