The Bread and Butter Thing (TBBT) at St John’s Centre is a great way to save money on your groceries every week and help to reduce food waste.
You can join TBBT for free, and your first weekly order is free too, so you can try it and see if it suits you. You get three bags of shopping (one fresh fruit and veg, one fridge goods, one store-cupboard goods) for £7.50. You can also get a larger or smaller order to suit your household. You don’t have to take food every week, and you can vary the size of your order.
TBBT get supplies from the stuff you hear about in the news going to waste – perfectly good food that just isn’t needed by supermarkets, factories or farms. This means that you don’t get a choice about what you are given – though you can have a vegetarian order.
During the Coronavirus lockdown, TBBT will be at St John’s Centre every Monday afternoon as usual, but food will be distributed from their van outside the Centre. You can ask a friend, neighbour or volunteer to collect your order for you if you are isolating.
All you have to do to get started is text TBBT – for full instructions, click here.
