ESOL Book Project

At St John’s Centre, we have volunteer-led ESOL classes on Tuesday mornings (Reading and Writing) and Friday mornings (Discover Manchester). These are free or low-cost, and open to everyone, no matter what their level or their status.

Sometimes, Discover Manchester students go on trips to interesting local places, including Manchester Museum and Ordsall Hall, Manchester Art Gallery and Manchester Central Library. In the classes after these trips, students worked together to write short books for other people learning English. They also took books home to share with their families.

In the summer term of 2019, Trafford Council funded Discover Manchester to run a ten-week summer trip project. During this project, students chose to go to The Lowry, planned their trip, and wrote a book about it for other students.

On this page you can:

Notes:

The book and other resources are designed for Pre-entry / Entry Level 1 ESOL students.

This project was funded through Trafford Council’s Inclusive Neighbourhoods Fund.
